The Department of Early Childhood Education welcomed teachers, centre leaders and researchers to the Tai Po campus for a two-day symposium on play in the early years. Around 200 colleagues from kindergartens, childcare centres and universities across the region took part.
Sessions ranged from classroom studies of free-flow play to the practicalities of timetabling, resourcing and documenting play-based learning in a crowded kindergarten day. A closing panel of principals discussed what makes the approach stick after an initial project has finished.
Presentation slides and the symposium reading list are being circulated to partner kindergartens, and a follow-up workshop series for participating centres opens later in the term.
