The Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Primary) is a professional qualifying programme for graduates who wish to become primary school teachers but who do not hold a recognised teaching qualification. It suits graduates of non-education degrees who intend to enter primary teaching, as well as serving teaching staff who require a formal teaching qualification.
Structure and Duration
The programme is offered in both a full-time mode of one year and a part-time mode of two years, with part-time classes held in the evenings and on Saturdays to accommodate serving staff. The programme carries a total of around 30 credit points, comprising compulsory education courses, a teaching subject specialisation and supervised teaching practice.

Entry Requirements
- A recognised bachelor's degree, or an equivalent qualification accepted by the University
- A satisfactory standard of English and Chinese, as specified in the general admission requirements of the University
- A satisfactory result at interview
- Non-local qualifications are considered individually against equivalent standards
Career Prospects
Graduates are eligible to register as qualified primary school teachers in Hong Kong. Most graduates take up teaching posts in government, aided or private primary schools shortly after completing the programme, including in schools where they may already be serving in a non-qualified capacity.
