The Department of Special Education and Counselling held its annual inclusive education forum for partner schools, bringing together special educational needs co-ordinators, guidance teachers and senior leaders from around 40 mainstream primary and secondary schools.
The programme concentrated on practical school organisation: tiered support, co-teaching arrangements, and how a SENCO team keeps records that are useful to classroom teachers rather than to inspectors alone. Two partner schools presented their own case studies.
Schools that wish to join the network for the coming academic year may contact the Department; membership includes the forum, three workshop afternoons and access to the Department's school-based consultation service.
