C&I team wins teaching innovation award

Student teachers reviewing a lesson with their tutor

A teaching team from the Department of Curriculum and Instruction has been recognised in the Faculty teaching awards for its redesign of a core methods course. The revised course introduces lesson-study cycles run jointly with partner schools, in which student teachers plan, observe and revise a single lesson together over several sessions.

The redesign was led by Dr Chan Wai Ming, whose work has focused on curriculum design and evaluation, including the integration of STEM and digital pedagogy into teacher preparation. Colleagues said the format gave student teachers repeated, structured opportunities to see how a lesson changes in response to observed classroom evidence.

Professor Tam Chi Ho, Head of Department, said the award reflected the value of close and sustained partnership with schools in preparing new teachers.
