About

Dr Chan Wai Ming is an Associate Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses on curriculum design, curriculum evaluation, and the integration of science, technology, engineering and mathematics learning with digital pedagogy, working with pre-service teacher education students as well as practising teachers on programmes leading to qualified teacher status. His teaching draws on classroom cases collected through his own research, so that students encounter curriculum theory alongside the practical decisions schools actually face.

His research examines how school curricula can be designed, implemented and evaluated to support STEM learning and digital literacy across the primary and secondary sectors, with particular attention to how curriculum documents translate into everyday lesson planning. He collaborates with local primary and secondary schools on curriculum trials and classroom-based studies, and with kindergartens and relevant government bodies on the wider integration of digital tools into teaching and learning, contributing evidence that helps inform curriculum policy and everyday classroom practice in Hong Kong. This work has also shaped his interest in how curriculum evaluation frameworks can be made more useful to the teachers who apply them.

Within the Faculty, Dr Chan supervises postgraduate students undertaking research in curriculum design and STEM education, serves on the department's curriculum review committee, and contributes to professional development workshops for serving teachers as well as to the Faculty's ongoing review of its initial teacher education programmes.
